Two plays about failing monarchs overruled by their barons and deposed from power, Marlowe’s Edward II and Shakespeare’s Richard II were written within a few months of each other and tell of the inexorable cost of power on those who misuse it. Scena Mundi’s "Sad Stories of the Death of Kings: Richard II & Edward II" have been enjoying fantastic press and audience reviews while playing in London’s oldest church, St Bartholomew the Great.

Pip Brignall's King Richard and Edward Fisher's King Edward are supported by an equally impressive and talented cast including Graham Pountney, Ava Amande, AnnaBuckland, and Martin Prest.

The classically faithful Richard II with its delicate delivery of verse, beautiful processions and breath-taking costume contrasts sharply with the daring production of Edward II, in which 1980's rock replaces classical strains and the up-tempo feel of the production drives the energy of Marlowe's drama, cutting swiftly from scene to scene.
