Red tie

Ventnor Arts Club will be hosting a play performed by The RedTIE Theatre called The Woman Who Cooked Her Husband on Fridays 29th May and 5th June.

This talented local company are taking this play to the club for an evening of cordon bleu comedy for those who like their humour rich and dark. A wicked exploration of jealousy, humiliation, deceit and betrayal. The young cast (Hebe Gregory, Libby Cadman and Carl Burch) play out the story of Kenneth’s longing for a more exciting life and the consequences of leaving his wife for a woman who can’t cook.

Torn between his appetite for food and his appetite for sex, Kenneth leads a manic and stressful life. The playwright, Isitt, insists that the play should be served up at a fast and furious pace, without props of any kind, which makes great demand on the technical abilities of the actors.

This is the main reason for the director, Helen Reading, choosing to cast younger actors.

“In my experience, the training that younger theatre students have in more modern theatre techniques, their energy and their understanding of contemporary comedy skills, makes for a more exciting experience for audiences. All 3 actors were pupils at Medina High School, and had Drama training at RedTIE theatre from the age of 12. I am so proud that they have continued to perform as young adults."
