East Cowes Sailing Club, in conjunction with the Westerly Owners Association, is extending an open invitation to join the annual Sail the Wight sponsored charity race and cruise in company Eastabout around the Isle of Wight, on Saturday 6th June 2015.

There are 3 classes, with classes 1 and 2 starting from the iconic Royal Yacht Squadron Line:

Class 1) 07.00 am start: The Open yacht race for NHC rated yachts and The Westerly Owners Association race around the Isle of Wight

Class 2) 07.10 am start: A cruise in company around the Island for yachts not wishing to race

Class 3) 10.00 am start: For NHC rated boats preferring a shorter inshore Solent course. Class 3 starts from the East Cowes Sailing Club line.

Participating yachts in classes 1 and 2 will replicate the historic Royal Yacht Squadron 100 Guinea Cup route which, after defeat by the New York Yacht Club in 1851, latterly became known as The America’s Cup. This full east-about circumnavigation race and cruise in company of the Isle of Wight is a trip of roughly 55 nautical miles. The shorter Class 3 course takes in roughly 12 nautical miles of the Solent and will be as far as possible configured in the shape of the Island.

Following on from a good day sailing all skippers, crews, family and friends are invited to East Cowes Sailing Club for an evening celebration and awards presentation with bar, BBQ and music into the night. There will be a collection and fundraising raffle in aid of Age UK Isle of Wight.

Notice of Race Entry and sponsorship forms are available now from www.sailthewight.org.uk, from Age UK IW on (01983) 525282 or [email protected]. Full sailing instructions for all classes will be available one month before the event.
