Ventnor Library is pleased to welcome Mrs Margaret Stewart and her companion Mr Purdie, music publisher (Chris and Clive Rickards of Shoestring Players). Margaret tells the story of her aunt, Baroness Caroline Nairne who, during her lifetime, wrote over 100 of Scotland’s best-loved songs.

Caroline Nairne, a contemporary of Burns, has been much neglected yet many of her songs are known far and wide. Examples include ‘Charlie is my Darling’, ‘Caller Herrin’ and the poignant ‘Land o’ the Leal’.

Chris sings and shares with you the stories behind some of the songs, giving an insight into the life of this fascinating woman. Note: This is a free event but the Friends of Ventnor Library would be pleased to receive a small donation at the finish of the event to support their work for Ventnor Library.
