Ramshackle Cinema presents a romantic Valentine's treat with a high definition production of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, filmed at a live performance at the Globe Theatre in London. This is the first time this production will be shown on the Isle of Wight.

Tickets (£10 each) include a full afternoon tea with sandwiches and cakes at the interval. Half of all proceeds will go to support the Ryde Lions' charities.

Only forty tickets are available and must be booked in advance, with pre-payment by cheque or internet transfer. Please book by calling Judith on 01983 875738 or emailing her at [email protected].

The screening begins at 2.15pm on Sunday 15th February, with full afternoon tea at around 4.00 pm. Total runtime approximately 3.5 hours including interval. You are very welcome to bring your own pink champagne or other drinks to make the afternoon more romantic or, like the play, end in tragedy.

‘Dominic Dromgoole’s brisk, unfussy production…kept me hooked almost throughout. There is something about this welcoming and festive theatre that always makes you feel exceptionally close to our greatest writer. And watching the famous love story acted out before a mostly young audience, standing attentively and hanging on to every word, is to realise afresh the power of Shakespeare as both a poet and a storyteller.

Dromgoole is blessed with a smashing pair of young lovers. Adetomiwa Edun’s Romeo is fresh, cheeky, light on his feet and full of the ebullience of young love. He’s terrific in the fight scenes, too, and the swordplay in this production is thrilling, with a scary sense in the brutal brawls that someone could end up badly hurt.’
