In advance of the Harp on Wight festival, Merlynna Johnson gives a personal and fascinating insight into a Grecian double action pedal harp from France in the 1820s.
Merlynna studied piano and voice from a young age but it was not until her early forties that she suddenly knew she simply had to play a harp (Welsh ancestry?).
She studied with Susan Allen in Leicester where she was gradually introduced to the wonderful world of harp ‘technique’.
She returned to the Island in 2010 and, since then, has continued to play at many Island functions – the opening of the new Hospice wing and with the firemen in Ryde to name but a couple.
Based now in Freshwater, she's play at the Freshwater Bay Hotel and at the Piano Bar on regular occasions.
