Scott Hastings (Mercurio) is a champion ballroom dancer who believes in doing his own thing, much to the chagrin of his mother (Hastings) and controlling board. His life isn’t helped by the fact that his partner refuses to learn anything new and he’s landed with a new and completely inexperienced ugly-ducking dance partner (Morice). Their determination to win the Australian Pan Pacific Championship puts their working and personal relationship to the test.

Directed and co-written by Luhrmann, this exuberant low-budget slice of Australian life is arguably his most charming, entertaining and tender-hearted film that has a definite “believe in yourself” feel.
