Looking glass

This innovative exhibition presents exciting new research that suggests Julia Margaret Cameron, was the inspiration for Lewis Carroll’s White Queen in Through the Looking-Glass.

Carroll, (aka Charles Dodgson), met Cameron several times at Dimbola. Dodgson often wrote about people he knew and was famous for his parodies. He was probably attracted to Dimbola and Freshwater Bay by the varied artistic and literary society of the ‘Freshwater Circle’ which included poet Alfred Lord Tennyson, artist G. F. Watts and astonomer John Herschel.

This Exhibition runs from the 8th of July until the 6th of October. Dimbola is open 7 days a week from 10am - 5pm.
