In January 2014 Victor Saltmeris was announced the winner of the Isle of Wight Photographer of the Year competition. Giving Island photographers the opportunity to show the wealth of local creativity and skill, the competition received over 350 entries and Victor’s work was selected by three judges from 30 short listed photographs.
One of the competition prizes was the opportunity to stage a solo exhibition at Dimbola and ‘Life Through the Hidden Lens’ is a brand new body of work, developed especially for this.
Victor explains: “For the exhibition I decided from the outset to just “tell it as it is”, photographing people that I saw each day going about their business and capturing the moment... I used only one camera and one lens... NO cropping and invariably shot from the hip...
“My love is to photograph people in candid situations, without direction as well as, using only available light. Watching and photographing people as they relate naturally to their surroundings is just so interesting...”
This exhibition continues until Sunday 4th January 2015.
The museum is open: Tue-Fri 11am-4pm and Sat-Sun 10am-4pm during this period.
