Friday 16 April to Sunday 13 June 2010
Internationally renowned Marine Photographers ‘Beken of Cowes’ are holding a major retrospective exhibition at Dimbola in Spring 2010.
Works on display are by Edward Beken (1855-1915), Frank Beken (1880-1970), Keith Beken (1914-2007) and the current team of Kenneth Beken and Peter Mumford.
Featured are some classic monochrome original silver gelatine photographs and digital prints of the schooners, liners, steam-yachts and sea planes that have passed through the Solent, plus more modern digital images of today’s colourful and exciting action afloat.
Also on view will be Frank’s 8x6” glass plate camera, Keith and Kenneth’s Hasselblads plus the modern 35mm and digital Canons. A secondary exhibition features twenty of Kenneth Beken’s iconic images from the 1970 Isle of Wight Pop Festival.
The name Beken has been linked to the Island since 1888 when Edward moved to Cowes to set up his pharmacy. Frank, Keith and Kenneth have each earned a Fellowship of the Royal Photographic Society and the Company has three Royal Warrants from H.M. Queen Victoria, H.M. George V and H.R.H. Prince Philip.
Beken now use the latest and best digital cameras and printing techniques to produce their famous studies and are launching their new Limited Edition Prints to the public.
