SailGP is a new global sports series, during which athletes from six sailing teams and rival nations race head-to-head in five cities around the world. This year, the competing athletes will race in newly redefined F50 wingsailed catamarans, which fly above water on hydrofoils at around 60 mph (50 knots). These catamarans are made to be identical, in order to ensure that the race result has predominantly been determined by each team’s level of skill. Additionally, the competing boats include onboard advanced audio/visual technology, which enables fans to feel as though they are sailing alongside their favourite athletes. The sailors involved are amongst the most talented in their field, ranging from world champions and Olympic medallists, to America’s Cup winners.

As a result of Cowes SailGP and Lendy Cowes Week forming a new partnership, the Cowes SailGP event has become an official feature event for Lendy Cowes Week’s opening weekend; Saturday August 10th and Sunday August 11th. The event’s practice races will commence on Friday August 9th. The thrilling race event will take place in the Solent and alongside Cowes Week’s world-famous reputation, the event will surely be spectacular. Both ashore and afloat fans and visitors will not want to miss the amazing racing action that this event will undoubtably provide.

To ensure that you do not miss out this August, head to the Cowes SailGP Regatta Village which will be based around Egypt Point, where you can watch the competition unfold in prime position. This area will feature large screens and live commentary, sports presentations involving the sailing teams and event exhibits. At the beginning of each race, the teams will resume their start position just off Egypt Point and spectators on the water can watch from around the designated safety exclusion zone.

Cowes Race 1 – 15:10,
