World War 2 pilot Peter Carter (David Niven) returns home in a badly damaged aircraft. Cheating death, he has to argue for his life before a most unusual court. What follows includes romance, the pang of loss, the hope of survival, and the longing for life – in the here and now or in an unknowable afterlife. This film has it all!

Directed by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger, A Matter of Life and Death was released just postwar, in 1946. It features David Niven, Kim Hunter, Roger Livesey, Marius Goring, Raymond Massey, Abraham Sofaer, Kathleen Byron, and Richard Attenborough.

Category: U Duration: 104 minutes

Films are shown at Ryde Academy, where there is ample parking, including disabled parking. The school's Theatre has raked seating, whose padding can be usefully supplemented by filmgoers taking a medium to large cushion.
