Paweł Pawlikowski follows his Oscar-winning Ida with a stunning epic romance set against the backdrop of Europe divided by the Iron Curtain.
Shot in luminous black and white, it tells the haunting and emotional story of the turbulent and ill-fated love affair between two folk musicians, Wiktor and Zula.
When the Soviet government sends them on tour to Berlin, Wiktor plans for them to defect, despite the increasing evidence of incompatibility in their relationship.
