The popular West Wight entertainment group, The Elderberries, is performing at the Memorial Hall Freshwater on Saturday 3rd November to raise funds for West Wight Sports & Community Centre, in particular, the swimming pool.

There is cause to celebrate this year as it is the 40th year since the pool opened. It is also the 50th anniversary of the first Isle of Wight pop festival, which local resident Ron Smith had a hand in organising, to raise funds for an indoor swimming pool on the Island.

The Group will perform a variety of songs from the 1960’s including hits such as Sweets for my Sweet, Georgie Girl, Bad Moon Rising and lots more! Each member will have a chance to sing solos with guitar or backing track accompaniment. The second half will be dedicated to songs from 1968 and will include some that were actually performed at the I.O.W. Pop Festival!

The Elderberries consists of Bob Everson, Dorothy Green, Mark Handel, Janet Haire and Steve French. Also appearing will be guest artists Phil Edwards and Toby Elliott.

Tickets for ‘More Sound of the 60’s’, starting at 7.30 pm, are now available from The Cabin Freshwater and Everson’s Totland at £7 each. There will be bar facilities and refreshments available in the interval. Plenty of toe tapping music and songs to join in!
