Clara, a wealthy widow and retired music critic is the last resident of the Aquarius, a 1940s two-storey building in seaside Recife.

All the other apartments have been bought by developers, but Clara has pledged never to leave, even when harassed by the corrupt and threatening development company, and pressurised by her own children.

As Clara defies her situation, she discovers more about a society in which she is increasingly out of place and more about herself.

Ventnor Film Society meets in Ventnor Arts Club, 13 High Street, Ventnor, which offers comfy chairs and HD projection.

To be sure of a place, please reserve a seat by emailing [email protected], but local viewers can always take a chance and turn up on the night.

Screenings mostly take place fortnightly on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 7.30pm (look out for exceptions).

Entrance is £6, with under 25s enjoying a discount of £3, payable at the door and the bar is open from 6.30pm.

Parking in Central Car Park or in Grove Rd, free from 6pm.
