This Valentine’s Day Ramshackle Cinema will be popping up at Silver Sands Court, Bembridge, with Much Ado About Nothing (12A)

We are continuing our Shakespeare Festival on 14 February with an amazing 2013 film version of Much Ado. The Ryde Lions will also be back with their inimitable afternoon tea!

What happens when a director famous for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Avengers and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. decides to shoot a modern day interpretation of Shakespeare in his own Hollywood house…in black and white? The answer is an unmitigated success. Forget Kenneth Branagh’s charming Tuscan luvvy-fest of 1993 and enjoy Much Ado in a whole new light in this film by director Joss Whedon.

“Joss Whedon’s impact on youth culture is already hard to overestimate. Now he’s made the first great contemporary Shakespeare since Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo and Juliet. Not that it’s just for the kids – the Globe crowd, too, should extend this warm embrace….Whedon’s key coup is in simply directing a very good version of the play. He’s got a keen ear for comedy, a no-nonsense approach to ditching the gags that don’t work, a deft hand for slapstick and an eagerness to use it…[H]e assembled a crack squad of a cast, then dispatched them with purpose. The vain-glory and the self-delusion of his leads is beautifully done by both Alexis Denisof (Benedick) and Amy Acker (Beatrice)” **** The Guardian

McCarthy and Stone are kindly hosting this event at their lovely new development in Bembridge: Silver Sands Court, Church Road, Bembridge, PO35 5AA.

A full afternoon tea (with all the works!) will be served when there will also be an opportunity to visit the beautiful Show Apartments. The film will be screened in the comfortable Homeowners’ Lounge.

The price per ticket will be just £10 to include that delicious afternoon tea and admission to the film. Half of all ticket proceeds will go to the Ryde Lions for their charitable causes.

Please note change to our usual timings! Tea, and the chance to visit the Show Apartments, starts at 4.00pm. The film will start at 5.00pm and end at approximately 6.45pm.

Booking is essential as spaces are limited! To book, please contact Judith on (01983) 875738 or email her on [email protected].
