Saturday May 3 – 2.00pm – Festival Marquee – Tickets £12.00
Virginia Ironside started off as a temporary secretary to Shirley Williams at the Fabian Society and then worked at Vogue, followed by the Sunday Telegraph, the Daily Mail (as a rock columnist), Woman magazine, the Sunday Mirror, Today (as an agony columnist) and currently has a weekly column in the Independent and a monthly one in the Oldie. She has also written quite a few books, enough to be told she merits the title of writer!
Two of those books “No I don’t want to join a book club!” and the most recent “No, I don’t need reading glasses” , the heroine Marie deals with the fact that she’s sixty+ , and loving it! Going on the road to promote her books led to a “stand-up” show aptly named Growing Old Disgracefully in which Virginia explains that unlimited free drugs, boring for Britain, fun funerals, grandchildren and sex – or, even better, no sex – make the sixties the best – and funniest – time of your life…”
“This doyenne of Fleet Street delivers her observations with precision, style and wit. Her writing is beautiful, funny, sensible and smart – and her show, directed by The Young Ones’ Nigel Planer, is an absolute delight.” - Scotsman
