Saturday 3 May – 6.30 pm – The Boathouse @ the Spyglass – Tickets £5.00
Andy Norman (Brass/Vocals) will be joined by two of his favourite musicians, Martin Dover (Piano) and Ben Bartram (Bass) as they take this opportunity to play some of their favourite tunes.
Andy has been the Cornet player with Island favourites, The Unity Stompers , for over 30 years but his playing goes beyond "Trad" , encompassing the styles of his heroes such as Ruby Braff, Bobby Hackett, Louis Armstrong and of course his good friend Digby Fairweather. As well as Cornet expect to hear Andy on Flugel and Mellophonium with maybe something extra thrown in for good measure.
Martin and Ben are also both established members of The Unity Stompers. Martin is a classically trained pianist who plays a wide variety of styles in a number of bands. His beautiful ballad playing sits alongside a powerful Boogie Woogie. Ben plays a number of instruments including Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba and Double Bass but here he focuses on 6 string Bass Guitar.
Equally at home playing Ska, Rock, Big Band or Jazz, Ben is a skilled and sensitive accompanist, well in tune with Martin and Andy from their many years of playing together.
Be prepared for an evening of Melodic Jazz which will get your toes tapping.
After a short interval, directly following the Andy Norman Trio, Isle of Arts presents the Saturday night Jazz Jam hosted by Jim Thorne
