Geraldine McCaughrean has written 160 books and plays for both adults and children. She has won many awards for her children's books, and also wrote the official sequel to Peter Pan (Peter Pan in Scarlet).
In her own words: 'It's 30 years now since I first got published, and 50 since I found out how writing let me step outside my little, everyday world and go wherever I chose - way back in time, to far distant shores, towards my own, home made happy ending. Not that all my books are an easy ride. I write adventure, first and foremost, because that's what I enjoyed reading as a child.'
A brief selection of her books (published by OUP):
2013 The Middle of Nowhere
2013 The Orchard Book of Green Myths
2010 Pull Out All The Stops
2004 Not the End of the World (won whitbread Children's Book Award)
2003 Gilgamesh The Hero
1993 Gold Dust (won Whitbread Children's Book Award)
Geraldine has also written five historical novels for adults, all sadly out of print, though Philippa Gregory described her book Lovesong as 'Probably the best historical novel I have ever read'.
