FREE (donations welcome) Stargazing Evening at the Island Planetarium, Fort Victoria

Following on from BBC Stargazing Live with Brian Cox, earlier in the week Come and take advantage of the dark skies at the Fort Victoria (now a Dark Sky Discovery Site).

The evening is for people with little or no knowledge of the stars or who want a refresher, it’s finding your way around the winter night sky. Weather permitting it will take place outside of the Planetarium using some of our telescopes and guided around the sky by our astronomers.

Hot drinks will be available for a small fee. Remember to wear warm clothes!! If the weather is not on our side, we shall be using the Planetarium dome to simulate the night sky.

This is the inaugural meeting of the West Wight Stargazing Group

We meet on the second Friday of the month from September to March with summer events and barbecues. It is intended for everyone; from ‘eight to eighty five’ and families wanting to find out more about stargazing, finding your way around the night sky and basic astrophotography using our telescopes. There will be a talk every club meeting but it is NOT astrophysics and advanced astronomy. Also we run stargazing meetings on clear nights near to new moon. There are many benefits, if you become a member. Free entry to all regular planetarium shows, also half price for friends coming with you. Half price for all our events courses and activities, there is 10% discount on most purchases in our shop. Annual membership is £7.50 adult, £10 for couples/partners including (children up to 16), also Juniors/Students (16 to 24) - £5 • There is ‘Friends Membership’ for anyone with an interest and time volunteering to help at the planetarium on at least one day a month throughout the year. Training will be given.
