In conjunction with the exhibition 'Transmission' by Southampton Solent University School of Art & Design, Quay Arts will be holding two conference/workshop days on working in the creative industries led by artists and careers specialists for students and those early in their artistic career.
Creative Conference Day 1: Wednesday 23rd January. Creative Conference Day 2: Tuesday 12th February. Both days are at Quay Arts. 10am - 1pm & 1.30 - 5.30pm
Both days are FREE and you can drop in and drop out of morning and afternoon sessions or stay for both. One-to-one portfolio sessions are also available! Sign-up in advance, first come first served. Creative Conference Day 2: Tuesday 12th February: Seminar Room/Rope Store Gallery/The West Gallery. 10am - 1pm & 1.30 - 5.30pm. (Note, all times include space for Q&As) Booking required.
Focus: Design
Morning session:
10am - Quay Arts Visual Arts’ Project Manager, Georgia Newman and Southampton Solent University Senior Lecturer in Photography & Visual Arts, Stephen Brigdale, will give a visual presentation on the exhibition 'Transmission #1 Staging Place' and their approach to co-curation and organisation of the project.
10.30am - Borbonesa: horizontal collectivism and self publishing. A presentation from the art company Borbonesa, condensing 13 years of collaboration in the Creative Industries, exploring fine art, design and publishing projects from then to now. This visual presentation will also have an opportunity to handle artist books from the ‘Permanent Bookshop’ and Borbonesa collections with a paper engineering element to be included. http://www.borbonesa.co.uk/.
11.15am - Choose from either taking part in an SSU/VIVID Workshop on electronic drawing using ipads or a Workshop on Product Design led by SSU Principle Lecturer Mark Jones or you can choose to do a physical drawing workshop led by Elenore Pearson.
Afternoon session:
1.30pm - Introduction of 'Transmission' by Georgia Newman and Stephen Brigdale.
1.45pm - A presentation from artist, Howard Hardiman on progression through art schools and career routes, focused on Illustration. http://howardhardiman.com/
2.15pm - Talk by SSU Product Design Principal Lecturer, Mark Jones, will cover aspects of practical production in 3D design from concept stage to final realisation in both education and industry.
3pm - Gallery Tour of 'Transmission #3 Play' by guest curator Kate Maple and students from IOW & SSU.
3.30pm - One-to-one portfolio sessions for artists early in their career wishing to gain advice and support for their current work or students aiming to go into higher education. (Limited number of 15min slots available.)
