The Friends of Dinosaur Isle will be hosting their summer fossil walk and BBQ on Saturday 4th August at 4pm.

Following last year’s successful walk where more than 50 guests joined Tony Trowbridge and Dr Jeremy Lockwood for a talk on the local geology and an entertaining fossil hunt on Yaverland beach; this year promises to be even bigger and better.

The rain may have curtailed most beach activities but the inclement weather has been great for fossil hunting. The heavy rain has washed away increasing amounts of mud leaving more fossils exposed on the beach.

Although Tony Trowbridge is better known for his spray can art he is also a qualified geologist having spent many years in the fossil business before becoming a full time artist. Dr Jeremy Lockwood, a medical doctor and chairman of The Friends of Dinosaur Isle, is as comfortable identifying diseases in 120 million year old bones as he is examining the modern ones.

With the combined knowledge of Tony and Jeremy this is guaranteed to be the most interactive, unique and entertaining fossil walk on the island.

Tickets (£5 for adults & £3 for children) can be purchased from Dinosaur Isle and include a BBQ after the walk.

The friends of Dinosaur Isle hope to raise the profile of the museum and engage a wider range of the community including island visitors, schools and interested amateurs to ensure its long term survival.

The Friends of Dinosaur Isle was established in 2008 by Dr Jeremy Lockwood, a keen fossil hunter. It was conceived to work with Dinosaur Isle in protecting the Isle of Wight’s geological and palaeontological heritage and to bring together like-minded people to enjoy the Island’s dinosaurs.
