In celebration of the 125th Anniversary of SSAFA - Forces Help (Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association) there is to be a Literary Gala in the beautiful and historic home and gardens of Woodlands Vale, Calthorpe Road, Ryde, PO33 1PR - the former home of Admiral Lord Calthorpe.

Special attractions

  • Talks to be given by the well known Victoria Mather (pictured) and Lucie Whitehouse, whose latest novel is set on the Island as well as other well known local writers who will be happy to discuss their work and sign copies of their books.
  • Workshops on "Starting Writing" and "Creative Writing".
  • A book binding demonstration; a book-exchange and to buy table as well as a talk on e-publishing and e-books.
  • There will be a literary quiz with a prize for the winner as well as a literary crossword with prize.

All proceeds to go to SSAFA - Forces Help. The Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen & Families Association to support the practical needs wherever and whenever they are most needed.

The Lord Lieutenant and President of SSAFA, IW, Major Gen Martin White and Mrs Fiona White Chairman, SSAFA, IW, have kindly agreed to be present and will give a short talk explaining the work of the Association.

Admission by ticket - £10 (Includes a delicious homemade tea)
