The Storyteller (2) + Conversation with John Hurt and Duncan Kenworthy
Starring John Hurt, Brian Henson. Digital. 2 x 25 min. 1988.
A stunning re-telling of classic European fairytales brought to life by Anthony's beguiling screenplays with the help of Jim Henson's Creature Workshop and an always-stellar cast.
This was Anthony's first experience of working in post-production as much as in pre-production (alongside his dear friend, producer Duncan Kenworthy), which he later claimed prepared him for the role of film director.

The Soldier and Death
Guest starring Bob Peck. Directed by Jim Henson
From an early Russian folk tale. Returning from war, an honest soldier trades his last biscuit for a magical sack, into which anything summoned will enter! Trapping devils and even death itself, the soldier brings peace to his country. But death soon proves a greater enemy captured than free…
A Story Short
Guest starring Brenda Blethyn, John Kavanagh. Directed by Charles Sturridge
From an early Celtic folk tale. This time, the story is about The Storyteller himself. He recalls his days of servitude to the king for bamboozling the royal cook out of a free meal. A story a day was his punishment - or else he'll boil in the cook's cauldron of oil. All goes well until the final day... when he can't think of a story to save his life!
