Acoustic Originals is back on Monday 23 Nov 8pm; a showcase for quality songwriting, with the chance to enjoy the best from the Island and beyond.

Showcase of songwriting talent, line-up: Revenge of the Lawn, Michael Watson, Steam Machine and Spike Oatley.

Revenge of the Lawn, the music is as sweet as vinegar, evoked by the clumsy trumpet of Musician, the cheap bass of Baptist, the up-tight and awkward rolling drums of Quaker, through the familiar stringman Ranter and sister Prick-Ear's vocals, delivered at his unsexy, barking, bawdy best. Add to this the tantrum-like sax of Rattle-head with the cruel, harsh piano fumblings of Self-Seeker, and the result is a breath, or more accurately, a sigh of excitingly clichéd air, tainted with the inhibited odour of the most mundane of rock 'n' roll traditions.

Michael Watson, a singer/ songwriter hailing from the Northeast of England
and now living on the Isle of Wight. Kicked commonsense and better judgement to the kerb and embarked upon a solo acoustic trip. Singing songs of love, passion, derision and futile hope. Railing against the big world and its machinations. Armed with a box of plaintive tunes and full woe and wonder, his thinly veiled rants against the little things that make the big world seem like a lovely place, carry a caustic undertone to make even the most blinkered give a cheeky nod of recognition.

Rich Murphy of Steam Machine has played bass with many well known musicians and bands including a stint with Jamiroquai before forming this four piece band. Rich plays bass and sings and is a key figure in the delivery of educational music projects in the Isle of Wight, he also teaches bass privately.

Spike Oatley is a wonderful observer of the world around him and this is evident in his song writing and his other passion – art. He is a keen musician and heads his own band the Wild Oats. Spike will be performing solo - singing and playing acoustic guitar! We can’t wait!

Doors open: 7pm Entry is Free, so come along, have a beer or a glass of wine and enjoy this popular evening hosted by Quay Arts Director Mick Smith, a songwriter himself.

Location: Café Bar, Quay Arts
